Traditionally, it was always the Social Club that was the first Parish building to be built. This was no less true of St Stephen's. Not only was it a place of gathering for the Catholic community, but it also provided a good source of income for the building and maintenance of the Church, presbytery and School. Initially, Mass was celebrated in the club, until the Church could be built.
The present Social club is tucked behind the church off Howson Rd. The three main rooms: the Bar, the Concert Room and the Lounge offer a great deal of flexibility when it comes to hosting events and functions. The Club was refurbished over 2004-07 upgrading it, complete with air-conditioning. It is a members only club; non-members can use but must be signed in and pay to use the facilities. • The bar area offers Sky TV for all the Premiership and European games, as well as the bandit machines and music. • The Concert Room is big enough to comfortably seat 200 people and has a stage, dance floor and a kitchen adjoined for the preparation of buffets; • The Lounge is a multi-function room used by all sorts of groups that offers waiter service.
Run by a small committee of members and the Licensee, they meet on a monthly basis to consider applications, room bookings for members and non-members alike and organise any functions. Minutes of the latest committee meeting can be viewed by clicking on the icon above.
There are multiple users of the club. A selection of these are: • Pool team; • Darts team; • Bowls team; • Quiz team; • Lourdes fundraising group; • Walsingham pilgrimage group; • Line dancing; • Weight-watchers; • Ladies Social group.
The club can be hired for any number of functions by making application to the Licensee. Functions such as baptism parties, wedding receptions, birthday parties and Parish Social's have been held there. In the past the Council has hired the club for Job interviews and to host seminars.
Each year we host a Christmas party for the Pensioner's of the area. With waiter service for a three-course meal (staffed by Warrington Collegiate students) and entertainment, they are guaranteed a good night out during the festive season.
