Gradual reopening of churches

The Archbishop has given permission for three churches in our Pastoral Area to open next week:  St Benedict’s, St Joseph’s in Penketh, and St Mary’s Shrine.

These churches have been chosen because they are normally open each day for private prayer.

St Mary’s Shrine (from Monday 15 June)

Monday to Saturday
8.00 – 10.00 am and 4.00 – 6.00 pm

2.00 – 5.00 pm

St Benedict’s (from Tuesday 16 June)

Monday to Friday
10.30 am – 2.30 pm

10.00 am – 12.30 pm

St Joseph’s Penketh (from Wednesday 17 June)

Monday to Friday
10.00 am – 1.00 pm

If you call into any of these churches, you will be asked to sanitise your hands on entering and leaving, keep to a one-way system, and be guided to where you can sit or kneel.  Social distancing must be followed at all times.  Unfortunately, toilet facilities will not be available.

Please note: there is no obligation to come to church, and praying in our own way at home remains the norm at this time.

Lourdes Coach 6 Lockdown Challenge

Lourdes Youth from parishes in Warrington and Widnes usually travel on Coach 6, but as the Archdiocesan Pilgrimage has been postponed they have decided to challenge themselves to run, cycle, or walk the 1002 miles they would have travelled to reach Lourdes.

They hope to raise funds by being sponsored £1 for each mile they ’travel’. If you feel able to donate and support our youth then please follow this link to make your donation:

You can also Google ‘Go Fund Me Lourdes Coach 6’ to find the page.

Mary Curtin

Would you please remember in your prayers the soul of Mrs Mary Curtin (92 years) the sister of Bishop Malone who died yesterday in the USA where she had lived for many years. They are united again in death.

Bishop Malone’s Requiem Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Malcolm in the Cathedral today at 4pm and will be live streamed on the Cathedral website.
